Metronomy - ‘I’m Aquarius’

Tina Kalivas is a costume designer with a fashion background.

A skilled, technical seamstress and pattern-cutter who has sewed since childhood, she loves draping, tailoring, and working with couture techniques. Between 1998 and 2002 she worked with Alexander McQueen, pattern-making, building, and stitching his magnificent show pieces into reality. She launched her own eponymous label in 2003, which was sold in high-end boutiques all over the world. Tina Kalivas clothes were available in Browns, Liberty, and Harvey Nichols. She enjoyed dressing and creating bespoke outfits for wonderful female artists such as Amy Winehouse, Cate Blanchett, and Dita Von Tease.

Concurrently active in the film world as a costume seamstress, Tina worked on patterns and photo-types for Sandy Powell and was commissioned by Lindy Hemming to make couture gowns for the Bond film Die Another Day. An exciting creative opportunity arrived when she spent six months in Tokyo designing for Kazuaki Kiriya’s fantasy historical film Goemon, where she was nominated for an Asian Academy Award. This lead to her second major feature with Kiriya, Last Knights, featuring Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen.

Most recently she worked on The Courier, creating bespoke leather pieces for Olga Kurylenko and Gary Oldman. She also designed and made the costumes for Saint Maud, the breakthrough debut of director Rose Glass.

Tina’s love for diverse creative projects led to an invitation by the Greek National Opera to design for a special performance combining opera and ballet, a magical live event hosted by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation during the summer of 2019 in Athens.
